The POINT is August, 2020's Charity of the Month!

We are excited to announce that our Charity of the Month for August, 2020 is The POINT! For every referral we receive this month, $10 will be donated back to this amazing organization that empowers youth and their families to "live victoriously by offering a safe, engaging and Spirit-filled environment". 

Founded in 2003, The POINT serves over 450 low-income, at-risk youth, ages 8-18 annually. Since its inception, The POINT has provided a key prevention benefit the community; helping to break generational cycles of poverty and reduce debilitating patterns of drug/alcohol addiction, abuse and school drop-out.

The POINT is open year round, 5-6 days/nights a week providing a variety of academic, recreational, career readiness, STEM, arts, nutrition, leadership and spiritual programs.

In their most recent survey of core students, 98% of students said they feel safe, supported and cared for at The POINT, 76% said they feel more motivated academically, 59% improved literacy skills and 77% plan to enroll in college or a tech school post-high school. Additionally, 84% feel more confident, 76% improved self-esteem, and 76% made new friends. And finally, 55% of students are getting in trouble less, over 92% said The POINT helps them avoid alcohol and drugs and 83% said The POINT helps them avoid skipping or dropping out of school.

Over the past 4 months, The POINT's programs and services have looked very different due to COVID-19.

The impact of COVID-19 has been detrimental for their students and their families. For most, The POINT is where students come to be fed, loved and supported. Following school closures in March, The POINT hit the ground running by partnering with The Octorara School District and providing our parking lot as the daily pick-up site for youth ages 0-18 to come and pick up breakfast and lunch. Unfortunately, these meals were discontinued at the conclusion of the school year.

During this time, The POINT also coordinated donations and partnered with The Chester County Food Bank and The YMCA to deliver food to families 3 days a week – specifically targeting families in several remote mobile home communities.The POINT delivered over 400 meals to families in need.

When Pennsylvania transitioned to the Green Phase, we revised our strategy to increase support for families beyond food with “pop-up programs”. Each week The POINT coordinates the purchasing and packing of food bags for 75 families (feeding 200+). The food is delivered to The POINT on Mondays and POINT staff and volunteers pack the bags on Tuesdays and then go out together on Wednesdays to 5 different impoverished communities to deliver the food, facilitate games/activities with the students, and inquire about needs and pray with the parents. This has been a unique way of continuing to serve our community during this heightened time of need.

We are so proud to be able to support The POINT this month! For every referral that we receive in August, TEN DOLLARS will be donated directly back to them.
